Privacy Policy
The short version is that we collect only what we need to send you The Owner's Manual and keep you informed, we never sell or share it, and you can leave at any time.

Who We Are
Massachusetts Homeowners United ("MHU," "we," "us") is a statewide, member-supported network of homeowners in Massachusetts. This policy explains what information we collect when you visit this website or register with us, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using the site or registering, you agree to the practices described here.
What We Collect
When you register for membership, request a download, or sign up for The Owner's Manual, we ask for your first and last name, your email address, and your ZIP code. When you request advertising information, we also ask for your organization and a short message. We do not ask for, and you should not send us, payment card numbers, government identification numbers, or other sensitive personal information.
Like most websites, our hosting provider automatically records limited technical information when you visit, such as the pages you view, the date and time of your visit, your browser type, and a shortened or anonymized network address. We use this only to keep the site running, secure, and useful.
How We Use It
We use the information you give us to send you The Owner's Manual and our homeowner guides, to send action alerts about decisions on Beacon Hill and in your city or town that affect what you pay to own your home, to tailor what we send to your part of the state, to respond when you contact us, and to understand, in the aggregate, where our members live and what they read. We use ZIP codes to know which towns our members call home, and we do not use them to identify your street address.
We Do Not Sell or Share Your Information
We will not sell, rent, trade, or share your name, email address, ZIP code, or any other personal information with advertisers, political campaigns, candidates, parties, data brokers, or any other third party for their own use. Advertisers in our publications never receive member information. The only exceptions are the service providers described below, and situations where the law requires disclosure.
Service Providers
We rely on a small number of companies to host this website, process form submissions, and deliver email. They handle your information only on our behalf, only to provide those services, and under agreements that prohibit them from using it for anything else. We may also disclose information if required to do so by law, subpoena, or court order, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of MHU, our members, or the public.
Email and Unsubscribing
Every email we send includes an unsubscribe link. You can stop receiving The Owner's Manual, the guides, action alerts, or all of our email at any time with one click, or by replying to any message and asking. We honor every request promptly.
Cookies and Analytics
This site uses only the cookies and local storage strictly necessary to make the site work, such as remembering that you dismissed a notice. We do not use advertising cookies, tracking pixels from ad networks, or cross-site tracking. If we add privacy-respecting analytics in the future, we will update this policy to say so.
How We Protect It
We take reasonable administrative and technical steps to protect the information you share with us, including secure (HTTPS) connections, access limited to the people who need it, and reputable providers for hosting and email. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security, but we work to keep your information safe.
How Long We Keep It
We keep your information for as long as you remain a member or subscriber. If you unsubscribe or ask us to delete your information, we remove it from our active lists promptly, retaining only what we are required to keep by law or need to honor your opt-out.
Your Choices and Rights
You can ask us at any time to see the information we hold about you, to correct it, or to delete it. You can also ask us to stop using your information for any of the purposes above. To do any of these, email us at privacy@mahomeownersunited.org, and we will respond within thirty days. Massachusetts residents have rights under the Massachusetts data security and consumer protection laws, and we honor them.
Children
This website and our publications are intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under the age of 18. If you believe a minor has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.
Links to Other Sites
Our guides and publications link to public sources such as state agencies, town websites, and the Massachusetts General Laws. Those sites have their own privacy practices, and we are not responsible for them.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will change the date at the top of this page and, for any significant change, let members know by email. Continued use of the site after a change means you accept the updated policy.
